I just received from the musician Syncop one of the music tracks of Shadow Gangs, find it here.

I also integrated the sound effects for the game, and will from tomorrow start on the demo level design.

Demo alpha phase nearly finished

I have been working mostly on Brix the knifeman AI which is done now, apart from integrating a new attack behaviour.
Worked also on the cage, which is a central element in the game, inside there are the hostages that need to be delivered.
It has also some elements of surprise, but I won't say more about it.

Toni is making and sending me sound effects which should be finished hopefully by tomorrow. I'll have to do the code to manage the sounds (and music), I don't expect it to take me too much time, I did a similar sound handling before for other games so I can reuse some of the code if needed/possible.

The demo will have 5 characters in total (out of many more for the full version).
- Dan, main character
- James, main ninja enemy
- Alex, street fighter
- Jordan, gunman
- Brix, Knifeman

All are done both code side and art side (mostly), still needing some fixes, but that's for the beta phase.

Other gameplay elements are also done, like the cage and level destructibles.
The demo will get finished between the end of the year to the end of February for worst case scenario. We won't release a demo until we are satisfied 100% with it.

As I mentionned in a previous update, the knifeman is redone now, same character but better looking this time I beleive.
I leave you with the new knifeman image, and for all the users who check this game progress, and all the other who like it, thank you for your support.

Adding destructibles

AI is mostly finished for all characters, and what will be left to do is bug fixing it later when we start to put the Demo level together.

I started adding code support for destructible objects, these will be background objects that can be destroyed, and others hold hostages that have to be rescued to finish a level.

Music is also being done now, sounds too, things are moving and soon we'll have more pictures and especially a video to show more!.

I would like to say one thing, yes I know I am the game programmer, but when playing the game now in the current state, I feel deep satisfaction and enjoy the gameplay very much! and personally I can't wait to have more levels and a finished demo to play.

New dev update

Programming, programming programming. The little things and small details take time.

I have been doing the AI of the knifeman, and it's pretty much finished although I would like to add a new attack type for him. This new attack type will probably take the whole weekend to get it correctly.

Programming enemy behaviour is not trivial, and takes time to get right.

I have also been adding some details like blood effects, and theatrical slow motions.

Bellow is a new in game picture, the knifeman Brix in the picture might get replaced with another different version of himself that is in the works now.
There is a also a normal jump sound added to the downloads section.

Brix the knifeman AI

I have been fixing and enhancing the AI of Brix the knifeman, he is a very dangerous melee character, what he don't have from the reach and power of James, he compensate by his speed and agility.
More work will be done to it, but I am happy with the outcome so far.

On the art side, Alex is doing a second concept and drawing of Brix the knifeman, I already previously had one done and ready but I will wait for this second version of it and make my mind on which to keep.

Toni is starting on doing the sound effects, and we expect to have a lot of punch, kick and screaming sounds, metal to metal impact sounds in a fashion similar to the best beat'em up and fighers.
